Harrison Osterfield is the latest actor to join the cast of Catch-22, Hulu’s high profile new series directed by George Clooney. He joins Giancarlo Giannini, Christopher Abbott, Hugh Laurie, Kyle Chandler and George Clooney.
The series is based on the seminal Joseph Heller novel, Catch-22.
Set in Italy during World War II, Catch-22 follows the story of the incomparable, artful dodger Yossarian (Christopher Abbott), a bombardier for the U.S. Air Force, who is frantic and furious because thousands of people he has never even met keep trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy—it is his own army, which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to excuse himself from the perilous missions he’s assigned, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule: a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but if he makes a formal request to be removed from duty, he is proven sane and therefore ineligible to be relieved.
Osterfield will play Snowden, a tail gunner who does not know what awaits him on his first mission.
Giannini plays Marcello, the proprietor of a brothel in Rome. He is weathered but still debonair and loves to challenge the young American soldiers about their patriotism, their worldview and their sense of history.
Clooney plays Scheisskopf, a training commander based at the cadet school in California who isn’t the most likable man and doesn’t put his cadets’ interests before his own career. Laurie plays Major de Coverley.
