Theatre

One minute with Meredith O'Reilly

On May 10, 2013

Meredith has been an entertainer for over twenty five years. Theatrical highlights include the play Starkers, the first Australian/NZ tour of Les Miserables and The Producers (Hold Me-Touch Me, nominated for both a Green Room and a Helpmann Award). Her cabaret work includes Only Just Begun, about singers who died suddenly and young, which she devised for ABC Radio and then developed for Sydney Fringe Festival and Butterfly Club Melbourne. Meredith has appeared in numerous TV dramas, commercials, corporate films and is a voice over artist. She has hosted several radio shows and narrated audio books for Vision Australia for ten years. Meredith is currently playing the role of Grandma Addams in The Addams Family - The Broadway Musical, currently playing at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney.

If you could spend Mother’s Day putting your feet up reading a book, which book would you read?

"Collectomania" by my best friend Claudia Chan Shaw ... it's burning a hole on my bookshelf crying out for me to sit, relax with a cuppa & get into it ... such a gorgeous looking book, too.

What are you currently reading?

The libretto of an Off Broadway musical, which I'm thinking of co-producing.
Would rather not say its title just yet. I also just finished Anna Funder's non
fiction book, "Stasiland".

Which literary character would you most like to invite to dinner?

"Lucinda" from "Oscar & Lucinda". Our younger daughter is sort of named
after her.

If you were sent away to a desert island and were only allowed to take one
book with you, which one would you take?

The Oxford Dictionary ( non-concise version) .... then I could be writing lots of
stories & lyrics & increasing the vocabulary used in them while I was in exile.
Which fictional character most resembles you?
My husband says "Pollyanna" but I would rather ( grown up) " Anne Of Green
Gables".

What would be the title of your memoirs?

"A Loud Life Lived Large" .

Which literary character do you dream of playing?

"Miss Havisham ", maybe in a musical version of "David Copperfield" ... a complex & difficult woman.

Who is your hero/heroine?

My husband, Guy Noble. As kind, thoughtful & supportive as my late father
was...and also keeps us all laughing.
I also idolise the great Jill Perryman with whom my husband & I did "Hello
Dolly" about 18 years ago...a gracious, funny lady & true legend of Australian
Musical Theatre.
